Top Corner is very pleased to announce two new one-day football tournaments in London – PCR Football Challenge is for the UK PC and IT channel sector and is being run in conjunction with PCR magazine, while Develop Football Challenge is backed by Develop magazine and is for UK games developers.

Top Corner have many years experience running successful tournaments such as these, and are pleased to be able to offer these new events for industry sectors that we have not previously been able to cover. If you are interested in either tournament, you can see more info by clicking through:

Further to the tube stikes on the 6th and 7th September there are more strikes planned starting the 3rd October, 2nd Novemeber and 28th November.

Please note that ALL Top Corner leagues will be going ahead as planned on any of the dates that these strikes affect.

Teams are advised to keep track of the dates and to ensure that alternative travel plans are in place make sure you arrive on time for your games.

Now into its twelfth year, The Bookseller Fives supported by industry bible  The Bookseller is back on Saturday 25th September 2010. This is the annual national 5-a-side championships for the UK book trade. At the time of writing there are still places available to join in, competing against the likes of Bertrams (the holders, pictured below), Scholastic UK, Penguin Books, Central Books, Wolters Kluwer, Random House, The Copyright Licensing Agency, HarperCollins, Diviniti Publishing, Oxford University Press, Taylor & Francis and Simon and Schuster.

It’s always brilliant fun, and is a fantastic opportunity for the industry to get together in a relaxed atmosphere, so you never know there could always be some networking in there too, to say nothing of the bragging rights if you win! Here’s a report and pics from 2009’s tournament.

Team entry is for a squad of up to 10 players and includes a great BBQ lunch as well as the day’s sport and awards for the successful.

From this October T47 at London Bridge will be playing host to a series of open-entry 5-a-side tournaments – the Fives City Challenge, the T47 monthly 5-a-side challenge is your chance to pit your team’s skills against those of like-minded teams from other City firms in friendly yet competitive matches. The events will then take place regularly, so if you like them you can keep taking part!

We have kept the cost of entry low – it is just £120 per team. While the matches will be 5-a-side, each team can bring along up to 3 substitutes, so you can have 8 players in total on the day. The tournaments will last three hours and will include a group stage followed by knockout matches for the top teams. There will be qualified referees, and trophies for the winners – there will be a presentation in the T47 bar after the games.

There are three Fives City Challenge dates/times to choose from:
Friday 1st October, 17.00-20.00
Saturday PM 2nd October, 14.30-17.30
Wednesday 29th September, 16.00-19.00
Saturday AM 9th October, 11.00-14.00

Saturday 17th July saw the twelfth annual 5-a-side football and netball championships for the UK legal profession, presented by Top Corner in conjunction with industry bible The Lawyer. The tournament was played out in almost perfect weather for sport, and you can now download a full set of results.

Particular congratulations go to Edwin Coe (men’s football Cup), Norton Rose (women’s football Cup) and Ashurst (netball Cup) – well done all!

Every Saturday we hold drop-in football sessions at London Bridge. It starts at 11 AM and we play for an hour.

The pitches are indoors at T47, London’s coolest new venue.  No need to bring a ball; no need to be a great player; just come along!  We’re expecting a lot of demand for this, so please book in advance if you want to be sure of a place.  Otherwise it will be first come, first served.

All you need is your trainers and shin pads. We’ll organise everyone into teams and away we go.  It’s a casual, social fun session where you can meet people, make friends and get into playing football.  Oh, and get fit …

There are men’s and women’s sessions with a ref for each, mainly to pick the teams and make sure everyone enjoys the game.  Remember: you don’t need to be any good.  That’s not what it’s about. Friday 9th July saw the second annual 5-a-side football tournament for the UK toy industry, presented by Top Corner in conjunction with industry bible ToyNews. The tournament was played out on what was one of the hottest days of the year so far, and you can download a full set of results.

ToyNews Fives raises money for The Toy Trust, this year contributing just over £2000.

Last Sunday saw the launch of the Netball Clinic with the first session proving a big-hit with drop-in patients!

We wanted to offer a service that would compliment our league work, offering support and coaching to anyone who wanted it. We also felt it was important to make netball as accessible as possible, providing something that individuals could enjoy and feel a part of, whatever their level of experience and regardless of whether they currently played in a team.
