With the winter leagues slowing down it’s time to get yourselves signed up for some quality five-a-side leagues for the summer! Top Corner runs five, six and seven a-side leagues across London year round but this summer we’re looking to try something new.
The cost of pitch hire in London can make leagues very expensive to administer, but we have been getting an increasing amount of interest from teams, particularly girls’ teams, who want to play in a good-quality and well-organised league at a lower cost. Because of this, we have decided to launch our first ever no-frills league.
Focusing specifically on our popular Waterloo venue close to the Imperial War Museum, we have looked into ways that we can make our leagues cheaper so that all of the teams who want to play… can!
The no-frills concept means reducing the amount of administration and extras that teams receive as part of our premium leagues. What we haven’t skimped on is the superb, recently-built ‘3G’ pitches, prime kick off times (7.00 and 7.30 ONLY), and a great, convenient location.
A referee will be on site to ensure that the venue is always safe and secure and to answer any questions the teams might have. This means that the teams will man their own games, so whether you bring a unbiased referee with you for your home games or just rely on each other’s honesty would be entirely up to you. The official collects your scores at the end of the game and inputs them onto the website – so you still have your league table online.
What you get:
A half-hour game at 7.00 or 7.30
A top-quality 3G floodlit pitch each week
Full access to pavilion including lockers and showers
Online fixture list, league table, match stats, automatic email match reminders and results updates each week
A qualified Top Corner official on site
Medals for the winners
A summer of sun-drenched after-work football! *
Price: £44 per match – VAT included (compared with £58.75 at our other leagues at this venue).
We are looking to start on April 15th. Interested teams should contact Leona or call on 020 7036 9926.
Charity Round-the-Table Ping Pong
Friday 19th March 5-8 pm at T47.
As the amazing video above shows, ping-pong can be a life-affirming experience …
Tomorrow is Sport Relief and we are running our own charity ping pong event in the bar 5-8 PM.
The rules are simple: 8-10 players run round a ping pong table, taking turns to have a shot. Miss and you lose one of your three lives. At the end the last two players play to five, and the winner gets to donate the proceeds to Sport Relief, and a free drink! (This last bit means the same player won’t keep winning)
Players will be asked for a 50p donation to play a match, and T47 will match every donation, which means £10 will be raised per game. Each game lasts about 15 minutes.
Bring your friends down for the evening and enjoy round-the-table, raising money for Sport Relief.
Beards optional.
Remember, you can hire a table at T47 for only £6 per hour – best value in London!
The evening of Monday 15th March 2010 saw the official launch party for the T47 sports venue. We put together a fun-packed super teams event, with 8 teams from a variety of London organisations competing across 5 different sports – 5-a-side football, high five netball, dodgeball, archery and table tennis.
The event saw all proceeds being given to London charity Kids Company, who provide practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children and young people. Founder Camila Batmanghelidjh came along to help Top Corner MD Kevin Burns present the prizes and she made a very inspirational speech about the work of Kids Company. Kevin also presented Camila with a cheque for £1400.
The event was won by law firm Freshfields, with their player Kate Argent taking player of the tournament as well. It was incredibly close though with only goal difference settling matters – here is the final table:

Our sincere thanks go out to all the teams and players who took part – it was their participation and support that made the event the fun that it was. We would also like to thank 20/20 Archery and Dodgeball UK for giving their time and expertise, and Smith’s Catering for helping with the lovely food.
For information about using T47 to help create your event please email Andy or call 020 7036 9917.

But don’t simply take our word for it – here is what one of our most recent event clients had to say:
“I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at T47, in particular [event manager] Andy. The event we ran at T47 was very unique and complicated from a logistical point of view but with Andy’s help and event management the evening ran flawlessly. The flexible open space really worked as a blank canvas for us to turn it into anything we wanted which was ideal. I have received outstanding compliments following the event about what a great venue selection. Thank you for all your hard work.”
Laura Pryor, Meetings Manager, Corporate Executive Board. (Event held at T47, February 2010).
