A wonderfully sunny but deceptively cold north London day saw the twelfth annual Bookseller Fives tournament, ably supported as always by The Bookseller magazine.
Seventeen firms from across the industry sent teams to the competition, and a great day’s football ensued. Our heartiest congratulations go out to Central Books (pictured), who took the Cup competition, while we also commend Wolters Kluwer Stealth for taking the Plate.

September 9th 2010 saw Top Corner run its very first League Winners Awards night, hosted at London Bridge’s sporting hot spot T47!
The awards night was organised by league managers Raj Pahal and Jen Hart. ”Presentations are a tricky thing to organise league by league because the title could be claimed at 9 pm on a winter’s night,” says Jen. “It’s not much fun getting your trophy and medals from the match official afterwards, with no-one to see. Now that we have our own venue with a licensed bar, we thought we’d invite everyone down.”
“We didn’t really know what kind of response we would have,” says Raj. “We were delighted that eight of the nine teams we invited made it along. The atmosphere was brilliant and it was great to see netballers and footballers socialising!”
Darren Sooprayen was one of those receiving awards on the night, said “We all had a really good time … It’s certainly given us a huge incentive to win the league and get the invite back for the next one!” The evening was such a success that it’s going to be run four times annually. The next LWA’s (League Winners Awards) will be hosted in December, with invites going out to football and netball league winners and runners up.
“The evening was brilliant and we’re already looking forward to the next one in the coming months – it’s going to be even bigger and better!” says Jen.

‘SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAY’ comedy nights continue on Tuesday 5th October at the Tunnel Bar.
After the opening show three weeks ago, which saw TV Comedian Lee Nelson headline, things are going from strength to strength.

Saturday 11th September saw the top teams from within Top Corner’s leagues and events come together to challenge for the Top Corner Champions Cup, held for the first time at TC’s super new venue in central London – T47 at London Bridge.
Bertrams retained their title in the men’s competition, while The Comets took the women’s event. You can download a full set of results here. We send our heartiest congratulations to the two winning teams - very well done!
To take part next year you need to win a league season or a one-day event – that’s your passport to these rarified climes! The Champions Cup 2011 will be held in September and any team winning a title between 15th August 2010 and 14th August 2011 will be eligible to enter. Hope to see you there!
