Dodgeball Comes to London Bridge
Dodgeball Comes To London Bridge!
A message from Andy Stedman, the man who makes Patches O’Hoolihan look like a girl guide (Ed.)
Dodge, duck, dip, dive and… DODGE! You’ve seen the film, now is your chance to have a go yourself…playground stuff for ‘grown-ups’!
Despite my best intentions I am officially bored of going down the gym, spending an unsociable hour or so with the headphones in and willing the time to go by quickly. After a while it becomes a massive chore and the last thing anyone needs in these hectic times is to be doing something that is boring, and that you end up giving up on because it’s easier to stay in or go down the pub. I want fun as well as fitness, I want to meet people, be part of a team and pit my wits against others. And maybe even win! I loved the movie (don’t we all!) and fancied a go at dodgeball, but nobody was really offering it in London and so Dodgeball UK was born. Now I can at least replace the gym once a week with something I actually enjoy. Happy days…
Dodgeball is pretty much like the film except we use proper dodgeballs that don’t break your nose or leave ball-shaped red marks on your legs for days! They’re like indoor footballs but lighter, and they take a decent effort to throw and when they hit you, you more often than not can’t help but laugh. When they hit your opponent, of course, the laughter is even louder. MwahahahahaHA!
The good thing about dodgeball is that, apart from being really simple to play, it’s mixed and can cater for all abilities and ages in the same game (although probably best not to bring your gran). You can concentrate on your own game but you also have to interact with your team-mates. Do you all aim for the same opponent, does one throw high and another low, do you seek revenge for your team-mate’s recent plight, do you fancy someone on the opposite team and give them some extra ‘attention’ with your bullet throwing? It’s playground stuff for grown-ups, it’s a load of fun and the hour goes way too quickly, dammit!
The sessions we’ve had so far have been hilarious. There’s no other word that truly describes them to be honest. Check out our website (www.dodgeballuk.com) for some footage! Dodgy team costumes, strange ‘huddle’ chants, and simple things like just making new friends – plus the competitive edge. It has been popular enough to start leagues, which begin soon – we can’t wait.
At London Bridge’s spankingly funky new T47 venue we have social/taster sessions for you to come down to. Get yourself along after work on a Thursday at 7pm, on your own or bring your mates, and we’ll put you in teams for an hour and you can practice the “5 d’s” to your heart’s content. You can even bring a full team of your own (you get in ‘free’ yourself then but don’t worry, we won’t grass you up to the others). It’s as big a workout as you’re willing to put in, it’s fun, it’s social. We only have 24 places each session, and are booking now, so what are you waiting for! Duck down to the website page now and get yourself dodging and diving. Oh, and dipping…
Sessions – Advance Booking only: £6.75 per person, or £36 for a team of 6
