Our short list below includes one of our first basketball teams (guess who?), plenty of new entrants and a few oldies who are finally seeing recognition for years of service in the name game. Last night Top Corner hosted its second successful Christmas Awards night this month for football and netball teams across central London. Teams were out in force to celebrate their recent league achievements and individual accolades and with Christmas just round the corner teams were in the festive spirit and the beverages were flowing!
Oh and what an eventful night it was! We had Ian White being lifted like a King by his Witchfinder General team mates to collect his Top Scorer trophy, Panther’s netball team captain Stephanie Eason (pictured left in red) taking to the mic to ‘rap’ and Stephen Ward strutting his stuff on the cat walk in a Bet Lynch style leopard print shirt.

Congratulations to all teams who picked up an award last night and thank you for attending and making the evening such good fun.
The Top Corner paparazzi were out in force last night and there’s lots of photographic evidence of last night’s antics to be seen! To view the pictures on our face book page please click here.
Top Corner wish all our teams a wonderful Christmas and a Prosperous New Year and we look forward to seeing you at the next awards night in 2012.

Top Corner’s ladies football and netball teams made their way to Ruse bar in Borough last night to celebrate being presented with their trophies and medals after a successful Spring season.
Teams from all over London including Vauxhall, Kennington, Liverpool Street, Waterloo and Southwark enjoyed a girly night with lots of bubbly, dancing and pampering courtesy of Mary Kay cosmetics who are currently working with the England Netball team.

Congratulations to all teams last night who were presented with either a winners, runners up or player of the season trophy.
The next awards nights will be held in time for Christmas on Wednesday 7th and Thursday 15th December and winning teams will be invited when their season has finished.

For the second Top Corner Awards night, we decided to turn up the excitement levels. A crowd of over 150 happily beered-up footballers and netballers came along to collect a trophy for their exploits in leagues and events this Autumn, or just to enjoy the evening. Entertainment was provided by our own Jane Fraser – part time league adminstrator, part time singer and model – and comedian Prince Abdi.
The evening was split into two halves – with trophies and medals awarded to netballers first, followed by footballers and the individuals that made all the difference, picking up player of the season and top goal scorer awards.
“The first two TC Awards nights have been a huge success,” commented Siobhan Burns, co-owner of Top Corner. “It’s all down to the initiative of Raj and Jen, and we’re planning to do these regularly.” The only objections we’ve had so far have been from the teams that didn’t win awards but wanted to come along anyway. Siobhan has a plan: “We’re looking at running a Wooden Spoon night to recognise the teams that play week-in, week-out, with no glory in sight.”

The next awards evening is planned for early March 2011. League winners, runners up and individual award winners from the early winter period will be sent official invites to what will surely be another memorable evening.

September 9th 2010 saw Top Corner run its very first League Winners Awards night, hosted at London Bridge’s sporting hot spot T47!
The awards night was organised by league managers Raj Pahal and Jen Hart. ”Presentations are a tricky thing to organise league by league because the title could be claimed at 9 pm on a winter’s night,” says Jen. “It’s not much fun getting your trophy and medals from the match official afterwards, with no-one to see. Now that we have our own venue with a licensed bar, we thought we’d invite everyone down.”
“We didn’t really know what kind of response we would have,” says Raj. “We were delighted that eight of the nine teams we invited made it along. The atmosphere was brilliant and it was great to see netballers and footballers socialising!”
Darren Sooprayen was one of those receiving awards on the night, said “We all had a really good time … It’s certainly given us a huge incentive to win the league and get the invite back for the next one!” The evening was such a success that it’s going to be run four times annually. The next LWA’s (League Winners Awards) will be hosted in December, with invites going out to football and netball league winners and runners up.

“The evening was brilliant and we’re already looking forward to the next one in the coming months – it’s going to be even bigger and better!” says Jen.
