A wonderfully warm and sunny north London autumn day saw the very first Develop Football Challenge tournament, ably supported by Develop magazine and sponsored by Supermassive Games and UKIE.
Thirteen firms from across the industry sent teams to the competition, and a great day’s football ensued. Our heartiest congratulations go out to Testology (pictured), who took the Cup competition, while we also commend Jagex Games Studio for taking the Plate.

The phenomenally successful show Starlight Express ran at the Apollo Victoria for 18 years from 1984, and as part of the theatre’s 80th birthday celebrations many of the performers who were in the show down the years will be part of a review of all the shows staged at the theatre. What’s that got to do with T47, you ask? Well, we’re very pleased to have been able to offer the guys a practise space while they prepare for their re-union show. I’ve got to say it didn’t look like they needed a lot of rehearsal - they were sounding and looking awesome!

September 9th 2010 saw Top Corner run its very first League Winners Awards night, hosted at London Bridge’s sporting hot spot T47!
The awards night was organised by league managers Raj Pahal and Jen Hart. ”Presentations are a tricky thing to organise league by league because the title could be claimed at 9 pm on a winter’s night,” says Jen. “It’s not much fun getting your trophy and medals from the match official afterwards, with no-one to see. Now that we have our own venue with a licensed bar, we thought we’d invite everyone down.”
“We didn’t really know what kind of response we would have,” says Raj. “We were delighted that eight of the nine teams we invited made it along. The atmosphere was brilliant and it was great to see netballers and footballers socialising!”
Darren Sooprayen was one of those receiving awards on the night, said “We all had a really good time … It’s certainly given us a huge incentive to win the league and get the invite back for the next one!” The evening was such a success that it’s going to be run four times annually. The next LWA’s (League Winners Awards) will be hosted in December, with invites going out to football and netball league winners and runners up.
“The evening was brilliant and we’re already looking forward to the next one in the coming months – it’s going to be even bigger and better!” says Jen.

Now into its twelfth year, The Bookseller Fives supported by industry bible The Bookseller is back on Saturday 25th September 2010. This is the annual national 5-a-side championships for the UK book trade. At the time of writing there are still places available to join in, competing against the likes of Bertrams (the holders, pictured below), Scholastic UK, Penguin Books, Central Books, Wolters Kluwer, Random House, The Copyright Licensing Agency, HarperCollins, Diviniti Publishing, Oxford University Press, Taylor & Francis and Simon and Schuster.
It’s always brilliant fun, and is a fantastic opportunity for the industry to get together in a relaxed atmosphere, so you never know there could always be some networking in there too, to say nothing of the bragging rights if you win! Here’s a report and pics from 2009’s tournament.
Team entry is for a squad of up to 10 players and includes a great BBQ lunch as well as the day’s sport and awards for the successful.

Saturday 17th July saw the twelfth annual 5-a-side football and netball championships for the UK legal profession, presented by Top Corner in conjunction with industry bible The Lawyer. The tournament was played out in almost perfect weather for sport, and you can now download a full set of results.

Friday 9th July saw the second annual 5-a-side football tournament for the UK toy industry, presented by Top Corner in conjunction with industry bible ToyNews. The tournament was played out on what was one of the hottest days of the year so far, and you can download a full set of results.
ToyNews Fives raises money for The Toy Trust, this year contributing just over £2000.
