LADIES’ OR WOMEN’s??
We’ve been having a bit of debate within the Top Corner ranks as to whether female leagues are better referred to as Ladies’ Leagues or Women’s Leagues.
The debate continues as the TC team cannot come to a consensus on this one and so we’re putting it directly to our teams.
So, what do you think ladies……..I mean women……I mean…….HELP?!?!?

…so sang the great Phil Collins in his Genesis days. Go on – you know you remember that one! You don’t?
Ahem. Back to the purpose of this post – having managed to lose the login to the Top Corner twitter account over a year ago our tweeting has been what might best be called sporadic (i.e. non-existent). Darn that new-fangled technology.
We are back now though and promise to refrain from messing it up this time.
Follow @top_corner to keep up to date with the latest news and views from TC Towers. Might come in handy when the cold north wind blows and we face another white-out affecting games. We’ll not only make sure we tweet, but we’ll try to make sure to keep it interesting too.

The evening of Monday 15th March 2010 saw the official launch party for the T47 sports venue. We put together a fun-packed super teams event, with 8 teams from a variety of London organisations competing across 5 different sports – 5-a-side football, high five netball, dodgeball, archery and table tennis.
The event saw all proceeds being given to London charity Kids Company, who provide practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children and young people. Founder Camila Batmanghelidjh came along to help Top Corner MD Kevin Burns present the prizes and she made a very inspirational speech about the work of Kids Company. Kevin also presented Camila with a cheque for £1400.
You can view some great photos from the event online now.
The event was won by law firm Freshfields, with their player Kate Argent taking player of the tournament as well. It was incredibly close though with only goal difference settling matters – here is the final table:

Our sincere thanks go out to all the teams and players who took part – it was their participation and support that made the event the fun that it was. We would also like to thank 20/20 Archery and Dodgeball UK for giving their time and expertise, and Smith’s Catering for helping with the lovely food.

Whether you have in mind a company sports event, a party for friends or a team building event, T47 has something to offer. T47 is our fabulous new venue by London Bridge station and as well as hosting our weekly leagues, this cool contemporary space is also available to book for all manner of events. We can accommodate 10 people or 500!
We can host your corporate sports events, days of dodgeball, roller disco, table tennis, football, basketball – pretty much anything you’d like. Make your next event a special one by doing something totally different at T47.
But don’t simply take our word for it – here is what one of our most recent event clients had to say:
“I wanted to take this opportunity to thank all the staff at T47, in particular [event manager] Andy. The event we ran at T47 was very unique and complicated from a logistical point of view but with Andy’s help and event management the evening ran flawlessly. The flexible open space really worked as a blank canvas for us to turn it into anything we wanted which was ideal. I have received outstanding compliments following the event about what a great venue selection. Thank you for all your hard work.”
Laura Pryor, Meetings Manager, Corporate Executive Board. (Event held at T47, February 2010).

OK – this is it. The one you’ve been waiting for. The. Big. One.
We are very proud to announce the launch party for T47 sports venue at London Bridge, and some party it will be. We are going to be inviting all sorts of London media people along, and our event will see money being raised for the extremely good cause of Kids Company who provide practical, emotional and educational support to vulnerable inner-city children and young people. A totally fun event which will be delivering real support to a fantastic London charity – beat that!

Camila Batmanghelidjh, founder of Kids Company comments,
“Participation in sport helps young people emotionally and educationally. These are the exact values Kids Company promotes and we are proud to be associated with the launch of such an exciting new venue for London.”
The event itself will be at T47 (of course!) from 6pm on Monday 15th March 2010, and will take the form of a Super Teams competition. A squad of male and female players will represent each team entering and the teams take each other on at:
- 5-a-side football
- high 5s netball
- dodgeball
- archery
- table tennis
Space in the competition is limited, and we are inviting some of our friends from across the London business community to make up the competing mixed teams. There will be an entry fee of £200 per team and we are asking teams to raise a matching amount through sponsorship. A hot meal for your squad will be provided afterwards in the T47 bar. All proceeds will go to Kids Company. Our support for Kids Company will then continue after the event, through the provision of T47 facilities for Kids Company use on a weekly basis.
If you are interested in entering or finding out more, please contact Andy Harding for further information – andy.harding@topcorner.co.uk, 020 7036 9917.

I know. You’re saying to yourself “What?!? It’s only 8th December! I can’t be thinking about running off the turkey and Christmas pud when I haven’t even put my tree up yet!”, and I must admit to having some sympathy. However…
…as sure as eggs is eggs you’re going to want to be doing SOME exercise come January and a little planning now will allow you to be joining a football or netball league and the opportunity to keep fit and have some major fun into the bargain.
We have a list of leagues across central London that are now accepting applications from teams to join – have a look, we’re sure that there will be one to suit you.

So, the draw has been done and England have been handed the (apparently) kind group draw of USA, Algeria and Slovenia. Expect excitement and expectation to build to totally ridiculous levels over the coming months, neglecting the fact that England may well meet Germany in the next round should they progress, and we know how they usually fare there…
We wanted to flag nice and early that TCHQ will ensure that we won’t be scheduling any league football matches directly against England matches. You can be sure that your football won’t be getting in the way of your football, if you get what I mean. Dates we have so far are Saturday 12th, Friday 18th and Wednesday 23rd June.
There is a nice FIFA wallchart available as a PDF here.
