Top Corner is pleased to announce that we will be launching a new Wednesday evening Brixton 7 a-side league at our latest venue the Evelyn Grace Academy. The EVG is a state-of-the art facility designed by world renowned architect Zaha Hadid and provides a fantastic setting in which play your football. More importantly, the pitch itself is also a top-notch and purpose built for 7 a-side. Changing rooms and shower facilities are equally impressive. We are aiming to get our new league underway from November 2nd and are now accepting new applicants, if you would like the opportunity to play at one of London’s most unique venues drop us a form and we can get you on pitch in a matter of weeks.

The EVG is also a stone’s throw away from Brixton where you have the benefits of a vibrant and bustling nightlife with plenty of transport links to help see you home when you do decide to call time. The league will be our first 7 a-side outing in South London and we are able to offer it to you at great introductory rate of £66 per game (inc VAT) which works out cheaper than equivalent 6 a-sides. The Best Team Name of 2010

The Bensons

FC Twente Bensons

Our annual countdown …

10. Ball’s Out
It sounds obscene, but it’s actually not … rare example of a double non-tendre?

9. PR-Tick Thistle
Public Relations may not be the most popular industry in the world, but this team is doing its bit to soften the image – putting a new ‘spin’ on the Scottish Division 1 team affectionately known as The Jags.

8. Sultans of Ping Pong
When Dire Straits proclaimed themselves the ‘Sultans of Swing’ in 1978, let’s face it: no one else was competing for the title.  This team from our table tennis league takes naffness to another level.

7. Kiss My Pass
Mixed netball is a growing sport in this country (Aussies having worked out long ago that it’s a great way to get to know members of the opposite sex).  Curiously, only mixed teams made our list this year … maybe they just have more fun?

MD Munchengladbach Are Champions After A Night Of High Drama

Islington 6-a-side Thursday

md-4

On a wet night in Paradise Park MD Munchengladbach were very proud to be crowned Champions after a classic evening of football. MD Munchengladbach started the night level on points with Surrey ARD and had a one goal superior goal difference. They knew exactly what they had to do against Alonso de Guzman, take 3 points and score as many goals as possible to put some light between themselves and Surrey ARD. Trouble was Alonso who had started the season on fire lay in 4th place in the league and were no pushover. The rain was pouring down but MD were professional and ruthless and it has to be said, played like true Champions. Phil Slade put in a great performance and along with goals from himself, Michael Deufemia, Tony Deufemia, Darren Pinnock, Oliver Mead and Phil Spain landed themselves an 11-2 victory. This was a fantastic result and meant they could hit the local in the knowledge they had done exactly what was needed of them.

This meant that Surrey ARD needed to beat Zed FC by 11 goals to draw level on goal difference with MD and then would win the league on goals scored. Zed FC had their own aspirations though as a win for them by a large margin could have meant stealing 2nd place.

SSSSSSSSSSS

Surrey started with purpose while MD watched from the sidelines and used their one player advantage to take an early lead. As Zed’s extra player arrived the game got tighter and in the end Surrey had to make do with a 5-2 victory which although a great result was not enough to give them the title but gave them 2nd place which is still a fantastic achievement.

ZZZZZZ

In the individual awards Takis Gido (Alonso de Guzman FC) scored an amazing 27 goals in 10 games to land the golden boot. This will be handed out on the 1st night of the new season. The player of the season accolade was much closer though with Takis Gido, Andras Visnezki (Zed FC) and even though the stats don’s show this after consultation with the results it was proved Phil Slade of MD was also on 3 nominations. The referee was asked to decide who he felt had given the most during the season and he said Takis Gido was for him the leagues best player and so Takis will also receive this award on the 1st night of the new league.

In the other games that wrapped up the league Tuffy 2 Buffy finished their campaign by beating DCK 6-4 in a ten goal bonanza. This result meant Tuffy didn’t finish bottom of the league which will no doubt please them. ASOS who did in the end finish the season at the foot of the table lost narrowly to Curse These Metal Hands by 2 goals to 1 and Blood Sweat & Beers were beaten 4-2 by Christchurch London III in the midtable clash.

I do hope that you have all enjoyed what has been a great season to follow and congratulations again to MD Munchengladbach who not only are Champions but have qualified for the Champions Cup too.

LLLLLLLLLLLL

Check out the high vis! MD with their trophies after seeing the Surrey ARD game. If anyone would like copies of the pictures just drop me a mail.
